Project Completion Time: Completed within the approximately 60-day correction period specified in the NYC DOT violation notice

The Problem: Tree Roots Were Lifting the Sidewalk

The primary challenge at this Vanderbilt Avenue property was visible directly around the mature street tree. As the tree's roots expanded beneath the sidewalk, they placed upward pressure on the surrounding concrete, gradually causing sections of the sidewalk to become uneven and displaced. Simply patching the affected areas would not have addressed the source of the movement.

The location also made the project more complicated than a standard sidewalk replacement. The tree needed to remain protected while the affected concrete was removed, and the property sits within an NYC-designated historic district. That combination meant the repair had to consider three separate elements at the same time: the concrete sidewalk, the existing tree and its roots, and the historic-district setting.

"They took the time to explain what needed to happen with the permits and the tree before touching any concrete. It felt like they actually cared about doing it right instead of just getting it done fast." (Property Owner, Prospect Heights, Brooklyn)
